About the Vermont Campground Association

The Vermont Association of Private Campground Owners and Operators (VAPCOO) was organized in November 1964 by 12 campgrounds to promote the use and enjoyment of private campgrounds as well as to encourage a high standard of service to the public. The association continued to grow, working to promote Vermont as a destination vacation spot through the production of the annual Campground Guide and attendance at Camping and RV Shows.

In 1990 the association invited the State Parks to be a member, combining promotion efforts. In 1997 the association became the Vermont Campground Association (VCA). This joint effort of promoting camping in Vermont continues today, with both private and State campgrounds working with the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing to bring tourists to Vermont to enjoy our truly unique landscape and way of life.

Vermont has about 50 private campgrounds and 40 State Parks each offering its own unique outdoor setting, yet all share an appreciation for Vermont’s recreational, historical, and cultural attributes and a common spirit of welcoming hospitality.
